The On-Off system consist of following components
The solar panels convert sunlight to direct current (DC) which in turn charges the battery through charge controller. The Inverter receives direct current (DC) from battery and converts it to alternating current (AC), which is supplied to consumers load.
To understand the working of on-off system we need to consider following cases
Case 1
During sunlight the battery is charged and simultaneously the power is supplied to consumer load. You can see the flow of electricity in the above figure represented by orange arrows.
Case 2
During night the battery feeds the inverter in turn feeding the consumer loads. You can see the flow of electricity in the above figure represented by orange arrows.
Case 3
When sun is not shining and the batteries are low but the grid power is available, the consumer load is run by grid and the batteries are charged by grid. It’s just like home UPS system with solar power.
